Little moors drama.

Little moors drama.

Wow I’ve been really good staying out of moors drama for years. I let my emotions take me into some drama today. Oh my. The lesson today is perspective is everything. Freeps don’t know what is going on creep side and creeps can’t know what is going on freep side. One side is counting kills to figure out who is winning. The other side is counting wipes. Creep side has plenty of rezes. Freep side does not.

Today a hunter raid went out with some melee to follow for some support. Was able to take LC but it got flipped back quickly. Was able to take Isen. Had a fight in Isen and wiped the creeps but even they acknowledge they would wipe. Going into a fight knowing you will wipe is not really a win for the freeps. Jumping out of a keep into a raid of freeps is certain death. Not really a win for the freeps. I call a win for the freeps at EC. Great fights happened at TR and LUG but it was very rough fighting in a creep held keep. I’d call those a win for the creeps because of their rez power. I remember the days on creep side when we didn’t count kills we counted wipes. Back then we knew creeps would die more then freeps so a win for creeps was to survive.

I don’t know. A fight at OST on a red map doesn’t sound terrible. A challenge? Yes! Dealing with hunters shooting down from the walls is a problem. You deal with that by not going to OST or waiting for the freeps to come down. Today the creeps wiped in OST with 1 attempt and then wanted the freeps to go to DG for fair play. Not really fair in my eyes. That’s called a wipe for the freeps or even suicidal. So it seems the creeps logged out and let the freeps take some keeps. Most of the freeps logged out by then due to being tired of wiping and being insulted by a post telling them to come to DG.

The moral of this story? A very good one. People are biased to whichever side they are on and influenced by others. Would I have seen it different if I was playing on creep side? YES! Am I wrong with my perspective of things that happened? NO! Are the creeps wrong with their perspective? NO! Should the drama have happened? NO! Did I have fun? OH YES! Did others have fun? YES!

My Adventure in Lotro

My Adventure in Lotro
Lot of changes and updates to LOTRO after all these years

It’s been a very long time since I wrote about LOTRO. I thought I should update on my adventure in this virtual game. Recently the game came out with the first paid expansion called Moria. It brought 10 more new character levels and a huge area to explore in Moria. This post isn’t going to be a review of this expansion or the following update, book 7. I want to write about my experience in this game and how it relates to real life.

I started in this game playing with my best friend. We played and supported each other for a whole year. I enjoyed the PVP side of this game a lot more then the PVE side. Since Moria came out things have changed in friendships and groups. I have joined two Kinships since my last post and both have had some great moments and some drama. Recently some of my new friends I made in the game have decided to leave the game or leave the kinship I’m in. This new update, Book 7, has brought changes in the PVP side that doesn’t match my style of play too. I found myself not logging in as much due to these changes and missing my friend and the new friends I had.

I still play LOTRO but not as much as I did before

With all these new changes I am going to take a break from the game and try to work on my business, life and new friends. I already lost my best friend to this game which I really feel bad about. I never knew a virtual game could make people so emotional and change lives so fast. Maybe I’ll have some time to make a real review about the new updates to this game. I still really feel this game is good and the updates have made some things a lot better.

LOTRO, Real Life Changes

LOTRO, Real Life Changes

I used to play a game called Lord of the rings online every day. My friend and I would play together and share stuff in the game with each other for almost a whole year. I really got hooked with the PVP, Player vs Player, where I can play a spider and fight other people. That has changed with the last update. It made the creep side a bit too easy and the freep side is struggling now. Not much fun when there are no fights. Maybe in the future it will get better but I’m taking a break from it.

The PVE side of this game doesn’t give me much hope too. The kinship I am in lost some good friends I had so all I do is log in for the raids so I can help out. I already lost a great friendship to this game and I’ve lost some of my new friends as well. The Kinship I am in just isn’t the same without those people I got to know these past months. I never would believe a virtual game can be so emotional and make things so difficult in real life. A break from it will be good and lot of other people have decided to do the same. I bought a lifetime membership to the game so I’ll be back just hope everything gets better.

Virtual World Marriages Bring Real Life Debates.

Virtual World Marriages Bring Real Life Debates.

I found this interesting article reading some forums and really thought it was something to share. It had all the major virtual world and games mentioned on this blog and brought up a subject which is in the current news. You see all this debating about same sex marriage in real life but I never even thought about it in a virtual world. Social interaction in virtual worlds is a big part of why people like them.

The article mentioned that LOTRO decided not to add a marriage feature into the game. The reason stated was that they couldn’t decide to allow same sex marriage or marriage between different races. WOW, Everquest and NannyMUD were mentioned allowing any marriage. Second Life was mentioned for having no rules on marriage too.

I never thought of getting married in a virtual world. I actually remember some friends from the bbs days in the 90’s getting married online in a chat room. I believe most online games right now do allow marriages for anyone. When LOTRO brings in a marriage option I hope they will allow it for anyone. A hobbit and a dwarf could be a perfect couple to battle the evil forces.

My take on this is marriage in a virtual world should be allowed for everyone. It won’t harm other people and it will make the social interaction even better. Leave the silly debates for the real world. But it is a good read to see what other games have decided. The only thing that gets on my nerves with these games is the constant name calling, harassment and stereotyping. Using the word gay to call something lame is still offensive.
